History of celebration

For a long time, the Holy Mary of Šiluva has been given the title Health of the Sick, it is usual to trust her with our prayer intentions and worries. The Chapel of the Health of the Sick is in the Basilica, where the Holy Sacrament is adored and pilgrims coming to Šiluva ask the Lord through Mary to bring back their physical and spiritual health. Therefore, Kaunas Archdiocese Curia has decided to organise special days of the sick in Šiluva.

The first day of the sick was organised on the last Friday of April in 2009 and is celebrated every last Friday of the month.

During the warm season (May to September) inner healing prayer service is held after the evening Mass, during which in the presence of Jesus in the Holy Sacrament people pray for healing and liberation. Priests exorcists lead the prayer service and a community of people serving the people gathered pray in personal pleading prayer for the faithful. Also, missionaries from other countries come often to pray for the pilgrims.

During the cold season (October to April) there are no evening Mass and inner healing prayer service in Šiluva on Friday.
