• A pilgrimage is a trip to holy places, often made with prayer intention, not only seeking to do a sightseeing.
  • The tradition of pilgrimage to Šiluva has been alive for five centuries now. In 1551 Ragainė pastor Martynas Mažvydas in his letter to Prussian Duke Albrechtas complained that his Lithuanian parishioners were not getting used to their new faith and on days of festivities they were going to Lithuanian churches, and among those he mentions Šiluva, which is 100 kilometers away from Ragainė.
  • Pilgrims from Lithuania and other countries who are taking on the pilgrim route of John Paul II in Lithuania include Šiluva to their routes.
  • Since 2018 Šiluva has been added to the International Shrine Association of the St. James Way.
